ZooTampa Reopens With Your Safety In Mind

ZooTampa Reopens With Your Safety In Mind.

We value the role our Zoo plays in providing Tampa Bay with outdoor family experiences with nature which boost mental health and provide comfort. Rest assured that our commitment to the safety of our guests, staff and animals has never been stronger. We have invested the time to create and implement a stringent and extensive modified operational plan that sets a new standard in our industry for safety and sanitation protocols. Limiting not just who and how many guests may visit, but the manner in which they enter, traverse our paths and enjoy animal interactions in an expansive fresh air environment. Our enhanced protocols also apply to all staff who will be required to wear facemasks and other personal protection equipment as deemed appropriate by their job responsibilities.

ZooTampa is principally an outdoor fresh-air experience; therefore, when outside, guests who maintain proper social distancing are not required to wear facemasks. Even so, every guest entering the zoo is strongly encouraged to wear a mask, and ZooTampa will provide disposable masks free of charge for anyone who does not have one. Guests will be informed of indoor venues where masks are required, which currently include: retail shops, bathrooms, restaurants (except while seated for dining), and Manatee Mangrove. Additionally, masks are required during our Signature Encounters, Giraffe Meet & Greet, Expedition Africa Safari Tram Ride & while in the tram queue line.

Certainly, a new chapter in the 60-year history of ZooTampa is about to commence. While some things may look a bit different than you are used to, we take seriously our responsibility of being a place where our community can safely come to connect with family and wildlife.

We are excited about the future and the important role we play in the resumption of leisure activities in Tampa Bay. We are grateful to the Bay area’s essential employees who have gotten our community through this difficult time. The unwavering commitment of our remarkable team, along with the steadfast support of our board of trustees, foundation, donors, and the Tampa Bay community cannot be overstated as we embark on this new beginning. To that end, the safety of our diverse Zoo family, including the animals in our care, will indeed always be our highest priority.

We very much look forward to safely welcoming you back to ZooTampa.
