Florida is home to 13 amazing bat species that help out our daily lives! They are all insectivores that are useful during mosquito season, as one bat can eat up to 3,000 insects in a single night! Bats not only provide excellent mosquito control, but they are also great pollinators!

Tortoises don`t have teeth, so they use the bony outer edges of the mouth to bite off and mash food. Once in the mouth, food is quickly swallowed! 🧐🐢
The elephant`s trunk is capable of picking up everything from a single grain of rice to fallen logs! The trunk contains up to 40,000 individual muscles and has many uses, including smelling, vocalizing, feeding, drinking and communicating. 🐘

Did you know? The Panamanian golden frog is now considered extinct in the wild.
While the IUCN lists it as critically endangered, these frogs are now believed to be extinct in the wild since 2007. This species is now maintained in carefully managed survival-assurance breeding groups at facilities in Panama and in the U.S., including ZooTampa.
As their brightly colored pattern might suggest, this species is highly poisonous but not at all harmful to humans.
Fortunately, there is still great hope for the Panamanian golden frog. Thanks to efforts from other zoos around the US and the Panamanian government, these frogs still have a good population size with the goal of rebuilding the wild population one day.
ZooTampa currently has a Panamanian golden frog in three life stages! Eggs, Tadpoles, and mature frogs!

Today is Save the Florida Panther Day! A day to celebrate the protection of Florida’s state animal. 🐾
At ZooTampa, we are home to three Florida panthers, Lucy, Mickey and Walter. These three serve as important ambassadors for their species. 🐾
The Florida Panther, a subspecies of the cougar, exists only in South Florida and faces population threats due to habitat destruction and fragmentation, road collisions, etc. An estimated 120-230 Florida panthers are left; the Florida panther is one of the rarest and most endangered mammals in the U.S., and is protected under both the Endangered Species Act and Florida law.

Today is #SaveaSpiderDay, and we are highlighting the Mexican Red-Knee tarantula named Sprinkles! 🕷️
Mexican red-kneed tarantulas are found in the southern part of Mexico, extending into the Yucatan peninsula.
Generally seen as docile arachnids, these tarantulas are incredible hunters taking down a variety of prey that can be considered pests. They do not build webs like traditional spiders; instead, they are burrowers and tunnel into the ground the keep safe during molting and eat in peace.
Unfortunately, the Mexican red-knee tarantula is listed as vulnerable due to the illegal pet trade. 🕷️Learn more at Wildlife Trafficking Alliance.org

1. Please make one field trip per reservation order. Complete one and start a new one if you have multiple days you are booking.
2. Headcount can be approximate. Please include children and adults in your headcount. Please do not include pass holders in your headcount for a ticket.
3. On the ticket page, choose the correct grade level (to the left of your screen) to receive the correct chaperone ratio.
4. On the ticket page, when on the calendar section, the number of tickets available will appear in the top right corner for each particular day. Tickets available include children and adults. If you have more people than tickets available, please choose another day.
5. Anyone that is ordering lunch, even pass holders and adults that receive free chaperone tickets, do need to pay for a lunch IF they are ordering one. Free chaperone tickets and pass holders are for admission only.
6. Payment does not need to be paid at the time of registration. Choose the pay upon arrival option if you would like one person to pay for your entire trip on the day of your visit.
7. The prices of adult and children’s tickets are different.
8. You will receive a confirmation number and confirmation letter via email when your trip is confirmed. If you do not, please contact Jamie.Elkington@Zootampa.org right away.
ZooTampa at Lowry Park offers a variety of delicious food for guests at several restaurants and concession stands throughout, but we understand that guests may need to bring outside food for special dietary needs. Acceptable and prohibited food items are listed below. For the convenience of our guests, there is a picnic area located outside the park near the main parking lot.
